Education Event: Learn about the role of wind tunnel's in aviation and a visit to the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) national facility.

When: 3 July 2017
Where: CSIR, Brumaria, Tshwane
Facilities: CCSIR has 7 wind tunnels that enable South Africa to test the aerodynamic features of everything from cars to supersonic jets and rockets. These are restricted national facilities that require that everyone be pre-approved.

The Aeronautical Society of South Africa (AeSSA) hosted a visit on 3 July 2017 to the CSIR's wind tunnels by a delegation from WoA, led by Dy Moonsammy (WoA chairperson and Senior Manager of Learning and Development at Comair Limited). The group also included students, learners and young professionals.

The Wind Tunnel Tour presented an exciting afternoon that demonstrated how wind tunnels and aeronautical engineers work together to design better aircrafts. 

WoA will be organising more of these wind tunnel tours, partnering with schools to encourage learners to pursue a career in STEM education and aviation careers.
